Beijing has announced a 7-percent increase in its military budget amid tensions with the United States and territorial disputes with regional countries over a number of islands in the South China Sea and East China Sea. The move comes shortly after U.S. President Donald Trump spoke of plans to increase Washington’s military spending by 10-percent. This could unleash an arms race between the U.S. and China.
