This week’s episode of Dining on a Dime takes host Lucas Peterson on a little trip down memory lane. Back in the early 1920s when Peterson lived in Beijing (kidding, but it was almost 20 years ago!), he remembers seeing street hawkers serving jianbing in his neighborhood in Wangfujing. The jianbing is a customizable pancake, made with a wheat batter, eggs, and different sauces and toppings. It’s not inaccurate to say that it’s something like a Chinese crepe.
