Zhang was meeting today in Beijing with his South Korean counterpart Lim Sung-nam. Lim is in China for high-level strategic discussions… covering the situation on the Korean peninsula as well as preparations for a Seoul-Beijing summit during the G20 next month in Germany. Today’s talks are the first in 18 months and come amid a rapid downturn in ties between Seoul and Beijing over South Korea’s sovereign decision to bring in the THAAD missile defense system. China strongly opposes the deployment of THAAD, saying it hurts its national security.
