China’s ambassador to the UN said the relevant parties should resume negotiations and avoid actions or rhetoric that heighten the regional tensions. Liu also called for the denuclearization of North Korea while criticizing the deployment of the US THAAD missile system to South Korea. Liu insisted on taking into account the Russia-China dual-suspension proposal which requires Pyongyang to halt its nuclear activities and urges Washington to stop its military exercises with Seoul. The Russian ambassador also noted that underestimating the initiative would be a big mistake.
