Britain risks tensions with Beijing by patrolling South China Sea

published: 2017-07-28 10:53:21Britain’s Foreign Minister Boris Johnson and Defence Minister Michael Fallon have said the country plans to send their two new aircraft carriers to the disputed South China Sea, a move likely to anger Beijing. On an official visit to Australia, Johnson said on July 27 that sailing through the Straits of Malacca would be one of the carriers’s first missions, and that all parties should “respect freedom of navigation and international law”.
